Overview

The Graduate Certificate in the Teaching of Writing is available to those already certified as middle school or high school teachers--in any discipline, not just English Language Arts. The program can be completed fully online. For many school districts, the CTW may meet the requirements for dual credit teachers of college composition. Teachers earn a Certificate in the Teaching of Writing by completing 18 hours of graduate work, including the Summer Writing Institute, a program of the Eastern Illinois affiliate of the National Writing Project.

The CTW may be earned independently or as part of an MA in English.
