Overview

The interpersonal communication major teaches students the knowledge and skills necessary to facilitate effective communication in personal, professional, and group contexts. Employers seek out relational skills as an important part of the hiring process and interpersonal students are prepared to work in roles that feature interaction, relationship building, intercultural communication, and where you need to resolve problems or disputes.

Our classes focus on examining communicative interaction between individuals and highlight communication’s power to impact relational development across a variety of settings. Students learn strategies and tools crucial for developing their interpersonal skills across multiple contexts preparing them to work with individuals and groups from varying backgrounds and with differing needs and interests.

Strong interpersonal skills are often the starting point to successfully navigating our personal and professional relationships. Students learn strategies and tools crucial for developing their interpersonal skills across multiple contexts resulting in graduates that are particularly well prepared to work with individuals and groups from varying backgrounds with differing needs and interests.

Completion time: 48 semester hours required for the major and 120 hours required for graduation

The B.A. in Communication Studies: Interpersonal Communication is transfer-friendly for a number of reasons:

  • Students can complete the program in two years.
  • The B.A. degree in Communication major: Interpersonal Communication is a 48-hour degree program without a minor requirement.
  • If you decide to switch to another option for the B.A. degree in Communication Studies you will not significantly delay your progress toward graduation.
  • Transfer students who complete communication courses at other institutions can often use these courses to fulfill degree requirements.
