Overview

The mass communication major teaches students the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in today’s rapidly evolving media industries.  Students acquire a solid foundation in effective communication, comprehensive training in media theory, and basic skills in media production and message creation.  By becoming informed, critical consumers of media, students make sense of how mediated communication influences our understanding of political and social life.

As both media and society become increasingly fragmented this foundation is necessary as traditional media evolve and new media emerge.  Students can gain hands-on media experience by working at WEIU with either the TV or radio station starting day one, no experience required or academic benchmarks to meet.  Others may prefer to work at Student Publications, where you can write for the , , create video or , or work on the Warbler yearbook.
